5 of the worst films in 2020

Cinema has not fared well this year, but instead of ignoring the worst of 2020 – we’re going to embrace it. Let’s celebrate the bad films of 2020 and hope that films like this will be less for 2021. Here are 5 of the worst films from 2020.

THE WRONG MISSY

Perhaps the most disturbing on the film, The Wrong Missy tells the story of a businessman who meets two girls called Missy. One of them is perfect for him and the other one is crazy. He accidentally invites the crazy one on his work trip. Full of dated and misongynic jokes, mixed with sexual abuse that is shown as a joke, The Wrong Missy is a film to watch if you want to be offended.

DESPERADOS

Another Netflix comedy that tries to be edgy, whilst just falls flat and embarrasses everyone in the film. Desperados is predictable and just not funny. It follows a group of girls who travel to Mexico to try and delete an email one of them sent their boyfriend. Sadly, it stars a funny cast – but they are just not comedic in any way. If you want a meh film, then watch Desperados

THE NEW MUTANTS

It’s not that this film is bad, but superheroes films have to wow to stand out. It’s a genre that is saturated, so The New Mutants just needed to be so much better. It follows a group of young mutants held in a facility and their journey fighting to save themselves. With an incredible cast, you’d think it’d be a great addition in the genre. It doesn’t wow and feels like a generic superhero film made in the early 00s, so if that’s your thing – check out The New Mutants

THE JESUS ROLLS

The Big Lebowski is a cult favourite, so a spin-off centered on one of the characters makes sense? Sadly, Jesus was no one’s favourite character. The Jesus Rolls relies too much on the cartoonish aspects of his character rather than the dark wit from the Coen Brothers. The dialogue feels non-human and the film is a huge disappointment. Perhaps a better script and direction from the Coen Brothers would’ve made this a classic, but The Jesus Rolls falls into the failure bin.

THE LAST THING HE WANTED

A big cast and based on a well-regarded novel couldn’t save this film. The Last Thing He Wanted is a political thriller following a journalist who partially leaves her career to care for her father but soon learns of his shady business and she must take over. Interesting premise, but the execution and writing is just terrible. Lines feel extremely dated and non-relatable. The Last Thing He Wanted is an awful adaptation with no charm.
